In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into 4 equal-sized patties.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the hamburger steaks for 4-5 minutes per side or until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and mushrooms, cooking until softened and golden, about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring to coat. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
Add Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them, and simmer for 2-3 minutes to meld flavors.
Serve the hamburger steaks hot, topped with the mushroom onion gravy.
